Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was the killing of five Colonists in Boston, Massachusetts by the British on March 5, 1770. There was tension between the Colonists and the British that had been growing since the soldiers arrived in October 1768 to enforce the heavy tax burden imposed by the Townshend Acts.
The Colonists and the British were not on the best terms because the British were trying to gain more control over the colonies and raise taxes at the same time. Two things on which the Colonists were not happy about. The event in Boston helped unite the colonies against Britain and what started as a small fight turned into a major turning point in the American Revolution.
There is still speculation on whether the killings of the five Colonists by the British soldiers was murder or self defense. Many witnesses reported what they saw and a lot of the stories did not match.
